How My Teenage Child Lost Her Ear – Facts & Tips On Teenage Ear & Body Piercing
by: Jake Allen

Think this is a bad joke? Think again! In this day in age it’s not uncommon to see teenagers with piercing all over their body. Essentially most parts of the body can be pierced in one form or another and this dramatically increases the chances of hepatitis, HIV, tetanus, auricular hematoma, cauliflower ear, infections, allergic reactions, bleeding, and damage to nerves or teeth.

Most parents don’t understand why their teenagers want to get pierced, but for most teens it’s about individuality, fashion and personal freedom. Despite the health warnings, body and ear piercing among teenagers is on the rise! Because of this it’s important to let parents and teens know of the potential dangers of un-safe piercing.

For many parents the idea of letting their teenagers get pierced is a scary thing. Parents should consider that piercing is not something that was invented overnight. Many cultures dating back thousands of years have used piercing and tattoos as a symbol of importance, religious beliefs and yes even as decoration. This being said piercing knowledge has come a very long way as well as the proper medical equipment. Parents should do as much research as possible into the available medical equipment before making a decision on teenage piercing. A great way is to do online research or even better yet, talk to other parents who have teenagers with piercing. Chances are they have gone through all the anxiety you may experience and know the answers to many of the questions that are running wild in your mind.

Along with the explosion of ear and body piercing has come research into the many new possibilities of damaging ones ears or jeopardizing ones health. Also new medical equipment has been developed to fight those problems. Scientists at the Center for Disease Control are researching a possible link between piercing and the infectious liver disease of viral hepatitis. Parents and teens should keep in mind that getting pierced with non-sterilized medical equipment can dramatically increase your chances of contracting hepatitis which is much more contagious than HIV (the virus that causes AIDS)! This alone should be enough to scare parents and teenagers and motivate them to become more informed on the subject of piercing and more informed about the proper medical equipment. However there are safe ways to get piercing.

Many doctors and online resources don’t recommend doing the piercing yourself. Lack of medical sterilization equipment, proper piercing tools and experience typically lead to infections and / or hepatitis. If you’re going to let your teenager get pierced choose wisely. Take them to a reputable piercing shop that uses state-of-the-art medical equipment and do your homework! Most piercing shops will be glad to explain proper sterilization practices with the right medical equipment and ask about the use of medical equipment such sterilizers and autoclaves which are used to effectively sanitize the tools needed for piercing. If you notice that the piercing shop uses a piercing gun to do body piercing go elsewhere. Piercing guns can’t be sterilized and drastically increase the chance of infections.

If you want to play it really safe you can purchase a disposable ear piercing kit online. Many online medical equipment stores offer these kits at a very reasonable price. But keep in mind these kits are only for ear piercing, not body piercing. You should also consider letting someone with piercing experience pierce your teenager even with a disposable kit. These kits are very easy to use and are fully disposable thereby drastically reducing the risk of contracting hepatitis and other infections. Keep in mind however, that after your ear piercing is safely done you are not out of danger. Proper maintenance is required after you get your piercing. It’s recommended that you wash the area with soap daily and use isopropyl alcohol on both sides of the ear at least twice a day. Another good idea is to use an antibiotic ointment every night for the first week. A triple antibiotic is preferred, but Bacitracin ointment will also work. Most drug stores or supermarkets will carry brand name and generic versions of these ointments.

If you decide to let your teenagers get their ear pierced they should start by wearing only gold earrings first. Some teenagers will find they are allergic to other metals. Once you have your earrings you should rotate them a minimum of twice a day to help prevent scabbing. It’s recommended that you don’t remove your earrings for at least three to four weeks to provide the skin adequate time to heal. Teenagers should wear their earrings a majority of the time during the first year. As far as body piercing goes most piercing shops will provide a list of needed “care and maintenance procedures” to keep your body piercing from becoming infected.

Allowing a teenager to receive ear and body piercing can be very scary for parents. With all the potential health risks it’s easy to see why some parents don’t allow their teenagers to get piercing. However it’s good to keep in mind that if done appropriately your teenagers will remain in good health and will be allowed to express themselves in a unique way that they so desire.

How To Setup Your Computer To Watch Television Online And Eliminate Paid Entertainment!

How many times has it been while traveling somewhere a big sporting event was playing and there wasn’t a way to watch it? Or perhaps recalling the times with nothing else to do and no television around, you gladly would have welcomed a good movie or TV episode such as CSI. If only there was a way to get access to a TV including favorite channels anytime and anyplace, you would never get caught again without the entertainment you love. Right? Well now you can eliminate this issue, once and for all, by downloading a [watch television online] software to your Windows-based or Vista desktop/laptop computer.

Traveling down this road should never happen, if currently using the Internet. Using software to watch TV on your PC instantly offers the best thing since Satellite TV. In fact, it helps economize paid TV/VOD entertainment, buying/renting videos and movie theater costs by eliminating all costs. The software offers a legal, safe, and risk-free environment so there’s no looking over your shoulders when getting access to more variety TV than any traditional TV. Just a small one-time downloading fee allows instant access to 1000s of free Internet media through a pre-loaded, hi-tech Satellite TV player

The only cost comes with an Internet broadband connection such as DSL or High Speed, or when using a laptop broadband card. This allows watching computer TV from any location while at home or when traveling. Even a wifi connection will work but with some limitation. These days anyone can establish an Internet connection practically anywhere in the World very quickly and easily. With an Internet broadband connection, anyone can watch TV on PC channels and VOD within seconds, and receive a lifetime of TV/Radio/VOD for free.

Users get instant access when using an all-in-one member’s area and [watch television online] software to access premium, HDTV, and on-demand Internet channels, including listening to Satellite radio and music. This platform also has the ability to access over 78 Countries [in various languages] with all kinds of entertainment that puts users in a savings haven. In essence, a super computer TV adds more TV
1000
savings, variety, freedom, flexibility, and mobility than any traditional TV today. Once more, it doesn’t matter where anyone lives or if they travel Locally, Nationally or Internationally, everyone can continue watching their favorite TV shows, movies, sports, news, and so much more–around the clock.

This entertainment offers something for all ages, even cartoons to keep kids busy while traveling. No matter what language a person speaks or from what Country, s/he can gain instant access when using a special software to watch TV on PC while at home, work, college, or when traveling afar. Users also receive many of the big TV networks such as CBS, HBO, BBC, Discovery, ESPEN, FOX and many more. In a market that’s growing rapidly, Internet TV continues to boom because many of the big TV networks have taken notice of the big advertising revenues it brings.

For instance, the NFL network [first time ever] began streaming their Sunday Night Football games to the Internet on September 4, 2008. This added another sporting event to an already potent selection of Internet sports channels. It’s a cool [no-cost] way to watch any live Internet sports on a computer. Installing this software to watch television online will allow you to watch local sports blackouts. There’s no equipment installation, tech know-how, and monthly subscription fees required, as well as no home TV restrictions.

Locating 1000s of free Internet TV and radio channels, including VOD can be quite frustrating and time consuming, let alone trying to organize and store everything yourself manually. But with software, both the newbie and Internet media enthusiast alike can have it all without the hard work, knowledge or skill. Users get to enjoy Internet TV instantly when shortening the learning with a (watch television online] software to automate the entire process and setup. The benefits can’t be numbered when using a software package that assures users will get the best of Internet media for a lifetime of free entertainment.

Make no mistake, installing software to watch television online channels and video on-demand offers great entertainment and savings, but only the top software packages give users more assurance by eliminating concerns about illegal and unsafe software. These packages comes with a lifetime membership with free channel updates, software upgrades, tech support, and money back guarantee.

Safe Internet Surfing

Does your child have free access to the Internet every day? Do they love chatting? If they do, are they aware of the risks of Internet surfing? If not, then their safety is being jeopardized!

It is a common fact that the Internet is the whole world. Every day, people from all over the world access to collect information, research, or just simply to have fun. However, everything has its two sides. The Internet also caters malicious, violent, and even pornographic content that may jeopardize a child’s safety on the Internet. Yes, in the Internet you can get all the information you need, but there are a lot of people too that make bad content in the Internet. And these particular contents can be a threat to your kid’s safety on the Internet.

Never respond to suspicious mails that are being sent to your e-mail address. Tell Mommy or Daddy about these suspicious mails once you receive some of the kind. While chatting, remember to be vigilant and do not give any confidential information to anyone unless you know the person in real life. Never believe everything you see or read in the Internet, some of these might be fraud and some predators lie to children in order to have victims. Set these as Internet safety rules for kids, especially to your kids.

In order to keep the children’s privacy with Internet surfing, an option is to install child internet safety software to at least alleviate the risk of having your child as victims of criminals. Internet safety software filters out the contents that can be shown to people who search certain articles. If the software detects malicious or suspicious content, it blocks access to the web site. This gives the parents assurance that their children are safe whenever they use Internet access.

It is a parent’s responsibility to ensure that their children will grow well physically and morally. The Internet can affect the moral growth of children as they are free to be exposed in different content that the Information Highway can show them. The Internet is not a library. It is like a very big bin of information that is being put there, whether it is valuable, informative, malicious, or even violent. Internet safety for kids is a must. As suggested before, the parents can install software, brief their children about accessing the Internet and its dangers and how to deal with people they meet
1000
there, and set a few Internet surfing rules that are to be followed.

As a conclusion, it is imperative to parents to ensure their children’s safety because it is part of their parental responsibility. The Internet is a very wide place and it contains everything, both good and bad contents. Aside from that, billions of different people access it every day and put in new content in it. The Internet is forever growing and getting riskier every day. Your child is at risk, so don’t let them be in danger. This is no hyperbole. Ensure their safety online, now.

The 6 Don’ts of Online Dating
by: Jack Conway

In previous articles on Internet dating, I outlined what you should do when writing your personal ad, how to exchange e-mails with a woman who has replied to your ad, how to conduct an effective IM (Instant Messaging) conversation and what to do to land a first date.

In this article, I’m shifting gears. I’m going to tell you about the Six Don’ts of Internet dating.

These are things you should never do when it comes to picking up women online, regardless of how much coffee you drank.

1- When conversing through e-mail, don’t write your life story

Nothing turns off a woman more than a man who can’t shut up. If you don’t believe me, the next time you’re corresponding with a woman you’ve met online, write a one-page e-mail about what you like to do on weekends, and see what kind of response you get. Nine times out of 10, a woman won’t even reply to you. She’ll simply delete your e-mail and move on to the next guy. Why is that?

First, women usually perceive a long-winded man as needy. And most women want a challenge. Needy men aren’t challenging. Second, quite frankly, women want to do all of the talking. And they want you to listen.

What to do: Keep all your e-mail replies short (i.e. no longer than three sentences). The first two sentences should be used for answering a question (or questions) she may have asked, and the last sentence should be reserved for asking her a question. Remember: Questions keep the ‘dialogue’ moving, and give her the sense that you are thoughtful and interested.

2- Don’t initiate sexual talk

Many women think men have nothing but sex on brain. Though there is some truth to this statement, you’ll get further in the game by not hinting at or talking about sex.

Besides, in this politically correct world, who wants to take the chance of offending women with sex talk, especially if you don’t know them well?

What to do: Just don’t do it. In fact, you’d be surprised by how many women will actually initiate a conversation about sex. When a woman initiates talk about sex, consider that a green light, though I suggest that your comments be very well thought out. Besides, if you’re looking for aggressive sexual dialogue with a woman, there are plenty of ‘adult’ oriented personal sites that cater to that.

3- Don’t lie

It’s a known fact that a significant percentage of men and women lie about themselves, whether it’s about marital status, income, education level or occupation, when it comes to creating an online profile of themselves.

I’m a true believer that the lies will catch up with you — sooner rather than later. And if you find a woman who is really interested in you, and you’ve lied to her, it’s just a matter of time before she finds out the truth.

What to do: If you think your income is too low, or if your occupation isn’t exactly exciting, simply ‘up-sell’ other qualities about yourself. Focus on the good instead. Never lie to impress a woman. Ever.

4- Don’t send too many e-mail or IM messages

Again, you don’t want to appear needy.

One way to appear needy is by sending a woman three or four e-mail or IM messages a day.

Of course, if the e-mail or IM conversation is moving along at breakneck speed and is interesting and stimulating, then by all means, have a full-fledged dialogue with her. In other words, don’t hold back. You may even try to close the deal right there and ask her out on a date.

But if you’re in the early stages where you’re still in the process of getting to know each other, then I suggest keeping your interactions to a minimum.

What to do: I know it’s difficult, especially if the woman is hot, but you have to be disciplined. Limit yourself to two e-mails per day, and keep streaming IM conversations to no longer than 15 minutes. If the dialogue exceeds this time, then excuse yourself and end the conversation, saying that you have some things to take care of — and don’t go into detail about it.

By doing this, you’ll remain mysterious, something that turns most women on.

5- Don’t spread yourself too thin

One of the better problems to have with Internet dating is corresponding with too many women.

Yeah, I know exactly what you’re thinking: What man doesn’t want to be chased by dozens of beautiful women? But truth be told, having an effective personal ad that generates a lot of responses can backfire on you if you’re not careful.

For instance, in the past month, I’ve received 56 responses to my personal ad. That’s a ton of women to e-mail. In fact, it’s too many. Way too many.

If you try to reply to every single woman who responds to your ad, you’ll soon find yourself spending your days writing e-mail. More importantly, you’ll start forgetting what you’ve said and to whom.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been embarrassed because I asked a woman the same question four or five times.

What to do: Though I encourage you to be polite, you may find yourself physically unable to reply to every woman who has responded to your ad. In fact, I recommend that you don’t reply to every woman who responds to your personal ad.

Instead, if you’re getting dozens of responses each week, only reply to the women you wish to pursue further. Furthermore, if these leads don’t work out for you, then you can always go back to the other women you didn’t reply to originally.

6- Don’t appear too eager to go on a date

Unless a woman immediately asks to meet you (and some will), a rule of thumb about asking a woman for a date is to wait at least a week after the initial contact before asking her out.

If you ask her out too soon, when she’s not ready and comfortable, she’ll disappear.

If you wait, one of the things that will go through her mind is, why isn’t this guy asking me out?

When that happens, you’ll instantly become more attractive to her.

What to do: Let her make the first move. If she’s the kind of woman who wants to be pursued, she might be a high maintenance princess, and that’s the last thing you want to deal with.

Play it safe, play it cool

Now, we’re all a bunch of macho men, but you can never be too safe. The last thing you want is to be involved in a real-life fatal attraction.

So in addition to these six ‘don’ts,’ I also advise against handing out your telephone number or your address. Take your time to get to know the woman before revealing your personal information.

Now go score!

How long should a parent put the kids first?

At what age should a parent stop putting his/her kids before before and above anything else? My hubby had 3 kids 17, 16 and 14 and they are first no matter what. Him and I have been married for 3 yrs and it is getting totally crazy how I am always put last, plans changing all the time for them but their plans for us never get changed. I have a daughter from a previous marriage who is 22 and when she was around 16 I started building my own life. Her needs were met and I was always there for her but she was not ALWAYS first. Call me selfish if you want but I did not sign up to be placed on the back burner constantly. I mean for goodness sake I give up every single weekend for these kids and spend very little time with my hubby during the week due to our work schedules. If him and I do go out on the weeknds we have to hurry back home because he doesn't like to leave the kids for very long and he calls and checks on them 5 times. They are TEEN AGERS NOT BABIES!!!!
